It was also America’s first planned city, founded by General James Edward Oglethorpe. As one can imagine, most things revolve around this moment, especially evident in the city’s historic district. There’s a new must-see American city quickly climbing the tourism ranks, and its name, of course, is Savannah.ĭripping in history around every corner the state of Georgia’s first-ever town was founded in 1733 along the Savannah River, officially deeming it the oldest city in The Peach State. Thanks, again, to the Inn at the Meander Plantation for creating such a memorable experience. Well done, Chef! And finally, a welcoming staff (including a Golden Retriever named Callie) made staying appreciated and pleasant. Most importantly, you felt as if you were sufficiently fed. If you understand fine dining, you will not be disappointed. The meals delivered an uncompromising and well prepared composure without the ever unnecessary character of pretentiousness. A four course serving (palate intermission included) with Virginia wine pairings was the pride of our already enjoyable day. After returning from a long afternoon of wine tastings from nearby vineyards using "Free Tasting" coupons that were complimentary of the Inn, a candle lit dinner of fine measure awaited. So delicious, it is as if you were opening a gift. Upon request a wonderfully delectable gourmet lunch "picnic" basket can be prepared for you before your day of exploring the region begins. Freshly prepared fruit with a gourmet breakfast was a consistent staple. Everything from spacious tiled rainfall showers, high thread count bed sheets with feather downed pillows for absolute divine restfulness to the seemingly trivial room provided coffee that features Starbucks! The meals provided were anything but "continental". Moving indoors, the Inn provided rapturous comfort in accommodations. From walking the same grounds that once resided a Colonial that commanded a young army officer named George Washington (Perhaps you've heard of him?) and best of friends to Peter Jefferson - the father of our nations third president, to awe-striking sunsets behind the mountain ranges that are as far as the eye can see. When compared to other bed and breakfasts, my wife and I were exceedingly pleased to discover this wonderful secret among secrets.
